Rubber Eggs are a fun band out of Palermo, Italy. The Farfisa organ, front and center, is paired with fuzzy bass and expressive drums, giving the band that classic-but-modern garage psych sound. The whole band got in on the response to this week’s “Five Questions With…” post.

Five Questions

1. What is your desert island disc (the one album you couldn’t live without?)

So… it’s hard to tell! We are three and three will be our desert island discs:

• Soft Machine – Vol.1 (for Davide)
• Pink Floyd – Pulse (for Marco)
• The National – Boxer (for Alessandro)

2. How did the band members meet?

Through internet recruiting! We found [each other] through an announcement on Facebook for a gig. Sadly, after a lot of rehearsals, the show was missed, but we decided to stand together and keep going after all. Rubber Eggs spawned from here.

3. What is the underground music scene like in your home country?

It’s very cool! Here in Palermo there are many interesting musical realities, in particular in the underground scene: friends like Airfish, Bye Bye Japan, Forsqueak, Il suono di Bill, Mezz Gacano, JuJu, Smuggler Brothers, 12BBR, Utveggi etc. sail proudly this wave, but unfortunately, [apart from a] few exceptions, the lack of places to perform hide them very often.

4. What are some of your biggest influences outside of music?

Our biggest influences outside of music vary between us, from the history of art and literature for Davide, the pulp movies and travelling for Marco, to the illustrative arts and drawings for Alessandro and his realization of our psychedelic album covers and posters. All [of these] things also influence so much [of] our musical compositions.

5. Tell us about your favorite show you ever played.

We had a lot of incredible gigs during our time, but the best show was in Lyon last March 29, during the minitour in France. This was our first musical experience in a foreign country with the crowd of dancing spectators, the kindness of pub owners, the meeting and music sharing with local bands, the lights on the stage, the harmony between us and the public… unforgettable! We enjoyed all of this!
